Heena Sidhu wins gold in Commonwealth Shooting Championships

Heena Sidhu defeated Australia’s Elena Galiabovitch with a score of 240.8 in the final.

Shooter Heena Sidhu on Tuesday clinched the gold medal in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event at the Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Brisbame.

Heena defeated Australia’s Elena Galiabovitch with a score of 240.8 in the final. Galiabovitch settled for silver with a score of 238.2 while Australian Kristy Gillman won the bronze with a score of 213.7.

Among other Indians in fray, Deepak Kumar won a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle event. London Olympic bronze-medallist Gagan Narang finished fourth in the same event, while Ravikumar ended fifth. Narang shot 626.2 in the qualification to create Commonwealth record

Heena’s good show at the Commonwealth Shooting Championships came after she had won a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup final in New Delhi. She won the gold with Jitu Rai in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

Earlier in May, Heena had won bronze in women’s 10 air pistol event at the Grand Prix of Liberation Plaza Shooting Championships in the Czech Republic.
